S54 engine (M3 spec), Alpha-N bespoke map plus engine installation and tuning all by Ergen Motorsport, New race-spec bottom end bearings, New discs & pads all round, New clutch, New Continental tyres, Just had glass out bare-metal respray

I bought this car after the previous owner had removed the engine to rebuild, and the car and engine ended up getting sold separately. Having no motor in it I decided to fit an S54 out of a 2003 E46 M3. This was fairly plug and play in terms of the mechanicals but was a technical job to complete the electronics side of the swap. I had the car transported down the Ergen Motorsport in Portsmouth who are well known and respected within the BMW community for their expertise in fitting any BMW engine to any car, with the S54 being their speciality. They wired, plumbed and tuned the engine setup using all BMW OEM connectors, sensors, and hardware. A brief mechanical spec is as follows:

-M3-spec S54 engine (343bhp as standard). The engine only has 64,000 miles on it.

-Bottom end bearings upgraded to low friction race bearings. The engine was out so I thought it to be good preventative maintenance to have the bearings replaced as these can be a weak point on these high-revving engines. It has been run on 10w60 for a few hundred miles to bed them in and has now just had another oil change with Castrol Edge 10w60 now the bearings are run in.

-Running the factory BMW MSS54 BOSCH DME ECU with Ergen bespoke software

-Alpha N map by Ergen Motorsport giving 355bhp minimum with the couple of breathing modifications

-De-catted with a stock M Coupe exhaust (quiet)

-Tubular race exhaust manifold

-Stock 5-Speed Z3M transmission with uprated clutch and new flywheel

-Mishimoto radiator and fan

-Brand new brake discs and pads front and rear

-Nearly new Continental ContiSport tyres all round

The bill with Ergen alone was £3000. Plus the cost of the new engine, bottom end rebuild, install, everything listed above plus endless other parts entailing a million trips to BMW, the repaint, wheels, etc etc. Needless to say, it owes me a small fortune, but it shows.

Cosmetically,  the car has been painted in what is widely considered to be one of the best (and rarest) S54 M Coupe colours: Laguna Seca Blue. As you can see from the pictures, the finish is excellent and was a comprehensive job. The bare-metal re-spray included all the windows being removed, all trim, bumpers, wings including the rear wings which bolt off on these cars, doors, interior carpets all stripped. This means there are no 'edges' and it looks every bit the factory paint job. Engine bay, door jambs, under the carpets, even under the exterior panels and bumpers down to the bare body shell - we went all the way.

All badges and hardware replaced where necessary with brand new BMW parts. Interior was already in good condition so it remains virtually untouched.

The car is a hoot to drive - wickedly fast as you would expect, handles and rides well and with the stock exhaust it can cruise in a very refined manner when necessary. 100% reliable

The car has covered just 89,000 genuine warranted miles.
